Abstract

1355738 Feeding and delivering sheets WARD MACHINERY CO 8 Aug 1972 [5 May 1972] 36961/72 Heading B8R Sheets 22, Fig. 2, are delivered on to the top of a stack in a hopper 23 and aligned against a gate plate 42 by an oscillating plate 44a between side guides 44b. The height of the stack is detected by a roller 50, which controls the speed of a separating suction belt 14 so as to maintain the stack at constant height while sheets are removed from the bottom thereof and fed by a belt 16 past an elecric eye sensor 28 of a counter into a hopper 45 to form therein a stack fed from the bottom, aligned against a plate 24. When a predetermined number of sheets has been counted, a step bar 26a is raised to position 26b, Fig. 2c, so that a new stack begins to be formed laterally staggered from the first, thereby raising rear bar 34a to influence a further sensor 54, whereupon the stop bar is raised to position 26c, Fig. 2d, to separate the upper stack, which is moved forwards by the bar 34a on to a removal belt 18. The stop bar is lowered and the bar 34a retracted, so that the new stack is moved against the plate 24, and the cycle is repeated. The belt 14 may be replaced by a friction belt 100, Fig. 4a, arranged to contact only the front part of the stack, the rear part of which rests on a small angular plate 108. The members 24, 26a, 34a are adjustable by a movable carriage according to the length of the sheets. Instead of the bar 26a rising to position 26b, the portion of the belt 16 under the front part of the stack may be lowered.
