Abstract

1,151,242. Drying apparatus. PROCTOR & SCHWARTZ Inc. 22 Aug., 1966 [23 Aug., 1965], No. 37463/66. Heading F4G. [Also in Division D1] Apparatus for treating, e.g. drying, material in long lengths, e.g. a carpet 10, comprises an elongated housing 12 enclosing a supporting, perforated conveyer belt 11 and stenter rails Ra, Rb, Ta, Tb, an upper plenum chamber Cp, a lower return manifold Ce and a conditioning chamber Cc wherein air is filtered to remove lint, heated at 40 and circulated by a fan 42. Exit for the heated air from the plenum chamber is restricted to an opening 101 having an axis parallel to material movement by a sealing means comprising horizontal members 97, 99 against the lower surfaces of which adjustable sealing members 103, 107 abut. The members 103, 107 are mounted on trolleys 80a 80b movable on I-beams 82 spacedly mounted, transversely of the material along the housing and also forming supports for the stenter rails which are adjustable by jack-shafts 88 to suit varying web widths. The length of the housing may be subdivided to achieve different temperatures in the housing and the ends of the housing are closed by air curtain chambers.
