Abstract

1344301 Paper-making apparatus HI-FLUX CORP 26 Oct 1971 [30 Oct 1970] 49625/71 Heading D2A [Also in Division F4] A paper web W is heated or cooled e.g. dried, by being conveyed between two woven wire mesh endless belts 12, 14 which move round foraminous rollers 16, 18, 20 and 24, 26, 28 supplied with hot air, each belt 12, 14 being pre-heated before the inlet of the web W. Heated air (900-1000‹F) is introduced into each roller from either or both of its ends, and passes outwards through the cylindrical surface and through openings 32 in the end surfaces, and is exhausted by a fan 10. Rollers 16, 24 are provided with fixed internal partitions 34, 36 to create zones from which the air passes through the rollers 16, 24 to pre-heat the belts 12, 14, the air being collected in a chamber 38, 40 and recirculated through a filter 42, fan 44 and heater 46. The tension of the belts 12, 14 may be adjusted by moving the rollers 20, 28. The roller 26 is driven.
