Abstract

Textile fabrics are continuously pleated along their length. They are delivered flat to be pleated, the pleats are formed lengthwise, and the pleated material is recieved for packing. The delivery and packing of the material is effected continuously without stopping or delay, and during the advance of the material, progressive and continuous pleat-shaping is carried out, whilst the material is held tensionless across its width, and under constant tension along its length. The pleating may be associated with an impregnation process, pref. of steam, to set the pleats. The process offers much higher speeds than previously-known, intermittent processes, with rates of >1,000 m. per hr. Various types of pleating can be effected by the appts.
