Abstract

1,151,193. Disc brakes. VERLINDE S.A. 23 May, 1966 [21 May, 1965; 29 Dec., 1965], No. 22831/66. Heading F2E. In a spring-applied, electromagneticallyreleased spot-type disc brake for electric motors in which first (1) and second (2) pressure plates carrying friction pads are adapted to engage a disc 5, the air gap a between the second pressureplate 2 and the electromagnet casing 19 is kept constant as the friction pads wear and are so controlled that each moves by a distance ¢a as determined by the position of stop-nuts 22. The degree of spring application is adjustable by adjusting screws 17 which bear on brake applying springs 15 and the electromagnet for releasing the brake is housed in a yoke member 12 situated in the electromagnet casing 19. The springs 15 urge the second pressure-plate 2, carrying a friction-pad 4, against one face of the brake disc 5 and the reaction on the guide-rods 7, slidable in a fixed support 9, urges the other pressure-plate 1, carrying a friction pad 3, against the opposite face of the disc. In order to regulate the air gap to counteract wear, one or more spacing washers 24 may be removed and at the same time an equal amount of washers 11 is removed to maintain the gap a. In a modification (Fig. 3 not shown) the adjustable limits are set by sleeve members which are screwed on to threaded parts of the guide-rods and which are flanged to limit the movement of the second pressure-plate which is journalled on said sleeves.
