Abstract

1,079,911. Spot-type disc brakes. H. TEVES, E. A. TEVES, and M. TAUSEND, [trading as ALFRED TEVES MASCHINEN UND ABMATITRENFABRIK KOMM.-GES.]. Aug. 4, 1964 [Sept. 4, 1963], No. 30504/64. Heading F2E. A spot-type disc brake comprises a rotatable brake disc, a fixed brake support 2, .a brake caliper 4 straddling a portion of the disc periphery and axially slidable in said brake support, a first brake pad 12 secured to one arm 8 of the caliper, a second brake pad 7 secured to a backing-plate 13 loosely mounted adjacent the other arm 9 of the caliper, piston/cylinder applying means .5, 6 acting directly on said backing plate and reactively, through the sliding caliper, on the first brake pad, and wear-adjusting and brake-centring device comprising an axially-extending pin 16 secured to the brake support, stop members 19 frictionally embracing the pin, and brake return springs 20 disposed between one stop member and said one caliper arm and between another stop member and said backing plate. The caliper arms are secured together by bolts 10 which are slidably-mounted by bushes 11 in lugs 3 of the brake support. The brake is provided with two adjusting and centring devices fixed to each lug. When the brake linings wear to the extent that the cup springs 20 are fully compressed on brake application, the stop members are frictionally displaced along the pins thereby compensating for wear and maintaining the correct brake clearance on brake release.
