Abstract

1365659 Pad type disc brakes DEUTSCHE BENDIX AUSRUSTUNGS GmbH 2 March 1973 [14 March 1972] 10357/73 Heading F2E A pad disc brake comprises an axially sliding caliper straddling a disc and containing an hydraulic piston and cylinder which acts on one pad, the other pad being actuated through the caliper wherein the centre of gravity of the surface of the other pad acted upon by the caliper is offset towards the leading region of that pad with respect to the centre of gravity of its lining, and the centre of gravity of the surface of the one pad acted upon by the piston is offset towards the trailing region of the pad with respect to the centre of gravity of its lining. Figure 3 shows an outer arm 15 of the caliper offset on the other pad 12, and the piston 17 having an offset surface 18. Figure 4 shows the other pad 22 being offset at 26 and the one pad 22<SP>1</SP> offset at 26<SP>1</SP>, the piston 27 and the arm 24 being centrally disposed. Alternatively the piston has its axis offset to the one pad, or offset metal plates are disposed between the pads and the arm and the piston respectively. All these constructions reduce uneven pad wear due to pad twisting during actuation.
