Abstract

1492375 Brake discs GIRLING Ltd 16 July 1975 [1 Aug 1974] 33953/74 Heading F2E The braking surfaces on opposite sides of a disc 1 converge towards the disc axis 3 so that any tendency for axial thermal contraction to cause the brake to slacken off is counter-acted by an effective increase in axial thickness due to radial contraction, the associated pads 2 being restrained from radial inward movement. The surfaces are defined by the revolution of lines which have an included angle of between 1 and 10 degrees, preferably 5 degrees, and preferably intersect on the opposite side of axis 3. One line may be normal to the axis. The pads 2 have a complementary shape and may form part of a disc brake assembly (Fig. 2, not shown) having a slidable yoke, opposed fluid pistons, means for mechanically applying the brake and a wear adjusting mechanism as described in Specification 1,179,235.
