Abstract
1,151,074. Boots &c. ADRIAN & BUSCH K.G. 2 Sept., 1966 [7 Sept., 1965; 17 Jan., 1966], No. 39279/66. Heading A3B. A shoe bottom roughing machine includes two roughing tools and at least two shoe carriers which carry the shoes around a closed path, the roughing tools being movable heightwise and tiltable lengthwise and widthwise of the shoe to accommodate the tools to the shape of the shoe bottom. Each shoe carrier consists of a base 8, a last pin 12 which can be tilted about pivot 21 by a screw 19 and a toe rest 13 which can be adjusted by screw 16. The carrier can be adjusted for length by pinion 14. Each carrier is pivoted by pin 9 to a lever 7 which in turn is pivoted to an arm on a rotary carrier 6. The shoe is guided in a straight line past the roughing tools by rollers 22, 23 engaging guide rails 24a, 24b and is guided around the rest of the closed path by guides 25, 26. A gear segment 33 and pinion 32 moves the lever 7 into its correct position at the start of the cycle. Each tool consists of a drum shaped body 71 housing resiliently mounted wire brushes 72 and is driven by gears 60, 61 and drive shaft 62. A guide plate 46 which contacts the shoe bottom ensures that only one part of the tool contacts the shoe bottom and roughs the shoe with an inwiping motion. To allow for lengthwise variations in the shoe the bearing 45 for the tool can tilt about pivots 40 in a frame 35. The frame 35 can be tilted widthwise of the shoe about pivot 47 and is locked in its adjusted position by a pin 49 engaging a toothed segment 48 on the frame 35. The frame 35 can also be moved widthwise of the shoe by means of slot 37 and is locked in position by a pin 39 engaging a toothed plate 38. The frame 35 is carried by a plate 36 which can move heightwise on guide rods 76. The lengthwise tilting of the tool is limited by a pin 44 and slot 42 and the tool may be locked in a tilted position when operating on the sole portions of shoes with very high arches. In a modification (not shown) the tool is moved widthwise of the shoe along the slot 37 by a sensing arm which contacts a cam track on the shoe carrier and which is connected to the frame 35 by a gear segment and a toothed rod.
