Abstract

1,150,957. Coated glass articles. BALL BROS. CO. Inc. 4 July, 1967, No. 30638/67. Heading B2K [Also in Division C3] Glass articles such as jars are provided with durable, lubricous coatings by applying thereto aqueous dispersions containing 50 to 500 parts by weight of a polyolefin and 5 to 200 parts by weight of a polyoxyethylene derivative of a fatty acid at a temperature above 160‹F. The compositions may be applied by spraying or atomising to articles emerging from an annealing lehr or to cold glass before or during reheating. The compositions may also comprise stabilisers, bactericides and mould inhibitors, and preferably 0.05 to 0.5 weight per cent of polyethylene of molecular weight 1200 to 2700 and 0.005 to 0.2 weight per cent of polyoxyethylene condensates of C 12 to C 18 fatty acids, e.g. stearic, oleic, lauric and palmitic acids. Examples describe the coating of glass jars with aqueous dispersions of polyethylene, polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate and (I-III) polyoxyethylene monostearate and (IV) polyoxyethylene monopalmitate.
