Abstract

1471293 Coated glass containers UNITED GLASS Ltd 10 Nov 1975 [14 Nov 1974] 49291/74 Heading B2E Glass containers, e.g. bottles for milk or soft drinks, are subjected to a hot and metal oxide treatment, e.g. with stannic oxide, followed by treatment with an insoluble organic material, e.g. a polyolefine such as polyethylene, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, a polyamide or polyethylene glycol and then a treatment with a fatty acid, e.g. oleic acid, palmitic acid or stearic acid, the insoluble coating being applied while the glass is above 120‹C and the fatty acid while the glass is between 90‹C and 130‹C. The oleic acid may be pure or it may contain up to 30% associated vegetable oil acids, e.g. palmitoleic, linoleic, myristic and lauric. The insoluble coating may be applied from solution and the fatty acid from the vapour in air.
