Abstract
931,290. Glass manufacture. UNITED GLASS Ltd. Nov. 10, 1961 [Dec. 14, 1960], No. 43019/60. Class 56. To prevent the formation of a " bloom " caused by the presence of alkali in the glass, the interior of hollow glass articles are treated with hydrochloric acid on leaving the annealing lehr at a temperature below 100‹ C. The acid may be applied as a spray in methyl alcohol or by introducing into the article, hydrogen chloride gas, formed by passing air through a 15-35% aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid. The latter treatment is followed by introducing acid free air into the article.
