Abstract
896,655. Ceramic glass. CORNING GLASS WORKS. Oct. 3, 1960, No. 33861/60. Class 56. A glass body comprising by weight 71 % SiO 2 , 2.5% Li 2 O, 18% Al 2 O 3 , 4.5% TiO 2 , 3% MgO and 1 % ZnO is heated at a rate not exceeding 5‹C. per minute to 800‹C., held there for 1 hour, heated at a rate not exceeding 5‹C. per minute to 1,080‹C. to 1,120‹C. held there for 4 hours, and cooled at 5‹C. per minute, or faster. Preferably it is held at 1,080‹C. for 2 hours and at 1,120‹C. for 2 hours. The composition may be modified to include small amounts of NaNO 3 and As 2 O 5 as oxidising and fining agents. Specification 857,367 is referred to.
