Abstract

In apparatus for drying laundry or the like in continuous flow through a rotary, perforated drum 11, Fig. 1, within a housing 10, repeated circulation of a heated air supply within the drier is achieved by a ventilator fan 14 towards the charging end 13 of the drum which has less output than one or more circulation fans 26 which circulate the air through the drum and over heater tubes 12, Fig. 2, mounted between the drum and housing. The charging end is hermetically sealed by an end wall 11a embracing a charging hopper 17 and the discharge end 18 of the housing is sealed by a wall 10b except for an ambient air inlet opening 23 beneath the drum. The ambient air is induced into the interior of the drum together with the hot air discharged from the drum through its discharge opening, which discharge opening has a delivery head 21 open at the bottom. The speed of the circulating fans may be regulatable and the discharge fan may have a regulatable output.
