Abstract

1,150,735. Hydraulic reciprocating motors and pumps. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT Ltd. July 18, 1966 [Sept.14, 1965], No.39170/65. Heading F1A. A hydraulic motor or pump has a rotating cylinder block 9 with opposed pistons 12, 13 engaging fixed swash-plates 4, 5 through slippers 17, 18, flow to and from the cylinders being controlled by a ported valve plate 36 hydraulically biased against a ported plate 27 fixed to the cylinder block. Valve plate 36 is located by sleeves 34, 35 which permit axial and tilting movement. The piston slippers 17, 18 are held on the swash-plates by plates 46, and are able to disengage from the pistons, an abutment 48 preventing outward movement of the slippers when disengaged from the pistons. In the Fig. 3 embodiment (not shown), plates 46 are omitted and the slippers are secured to the pistons by circlips. The cylinders may be stepped with a larger diameter at the drive shaft end to balance axial forces due to the valve plate. The cylinders may be inclined. The rear face of the plate 27 is vented by passages 55 to prevent leakage pressure build-up. The cylinder block may be forged, the metal displaced in forming the central recess extending from the block to form the drive shaft. Recesses (49) in the periphery of plates 46, Fig. 2 (not shown), enable the swash-plates to be located close to the cylinder block.
