Abstract

1,150,211. Mould handling. BOFORS A.B. 26 April, 1966 [27 April, 1965], No. 18297/66. Heading B3F. Lifting and turning apparatus for large casting moulds comprises a lifting yoke 1 having two depending legs positioned one on each side of a central yoke lifting means 3, the legs being carried on slides on the yoke and are movable towards and away from each other by means such as screwed shafts 7 driven from a motor 10. the free ends of the legs incorporating means for carrying the mould and for facilitating the turning of the mould about an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the yoke. The mould carrying means includes chain pulleys 17<SP>1</SP>, 17<SP>11</SP>, the co-operating chains of which engage the mould to facilitate its turning over. The mould turning is effected by a hoist unit 4, the cable 6 of which is connected to the mould to control the extent of rotation of the mould. Braking means 18, 18<SP>1</SP> attached to the chain pulleys assist in controlling the stability of the mould during the rotation and effect the arresting of the motion when the required position is reached. In an alternative embodiment, the leg movement and rotation of the mould is effected by fluid means 40<SP>1</SP>, 40<SP>11</SP> and 40, respectively, the rotation of the mould being effected by the fluid means 30 which is directly connected to the mould through rotatable members 29<SP>1</SP>, 29<SP>11</SP> at the ends of the yoke legs. Fluid means 43 is also incorporated to effect longitudinal movement of the mould and legs along the yoke to effect balancing of the mould during its rotation.
