Heading A5A [Also in Division C7] Corrosion of the body of a liquid-filled stainless steel fire-extinguisher is prevented by fitting inside it, below the surface of the liquid contents, a flat sacrificial anode mounted on a bracket and made up of zinc or an element higher in the electrochemical scale than the stainless steel of the body. Extinguishers according to the invention are usually pressurized water-containing extinguishers, in which sodium chloride or other impurities bring about electrolytic corrosion, but may be soda-acid or foam type extinguishers. The anode may be a strip rivetted to the bracket, or may be held to it by a bolt and be a replaceable disc. It may be mounted on the bottom of the extinguisher body or, to facilitate replacement, may be directly below the liquid level.
