Abstract

1,149,341. Chains. COAL INDUSTRIES (PATENTS) Ltd. 31 Jan., 1967 [11 Feb., 1966], No. 6173/66. Addition to 1,012,432. Heading F2Q. In a link chain, for use in protecting the supply cable of a mining machine, comprising U-shaped links of which the limbs 51, during use of the chain, are directed horizontally and extend laterally towards one side of the plane in which the chain flexes, to define an open-sided passage for receiving the cable, the U-shaped links are formed in part of plastics material. Each link comprises an apertured lug 43 and an apertured fork 44 connected by a bridge piece 54 of steel having a covering of plastics material. Each limb 51 is of plastics material and is strengthened by a lug 55, projecting from bridge piece 54, and a metal strengthening strip 56. Apertures 53 in the limbs 51 receive a dowel pin for retaining the cable.
