A cable protection link for a chain for protecting a longwall mining machine supply cable comprises a U-shaped member 3 having horizontally disposed limbs 7 of synthetic plastics material and a pin assembly 5 extending across the mouth formed by the limbs 7 and comprising two separate end parts 11 slidably engaged within the ends of an intermediate tubular part 9. Each end part 11 has a tapered nose, an axially extending groove, and a small head, and is an interference fit within its respective hole in the limb 7. The part 9 may be of metal and the parts 11 of synthetic plastics material or vice versa.
