Abstract

1,146,812. Comminuting apparatus. T. C. R. SHEPHERD. 7 Feb., 1967 [18 Feb., 1966], No. 5823/66. Addition to 889,097. Heading B2A. In comminuting apparatus e.g. waste disposal apparatus in which the waste passes through a receptacle 1 for passage downwardly to a comminutor 21 having an electric motor 23 and then to drain through a pipe 26, the receptacle has an inlet opening 2 and an outlet opening 3 and comprises a hinged platform 4 displaceable from a specified (horizontal or inclined) position in which position the waste is initially received thereon and then discharged over an edge 9 of the platform for comminution, and switch means 11, 12 connectable to the motor circuit 27 to 29 and automatically operable to open the motor circuit when the platform is displaced from the specified position. The switch means comprises a magnetic switch 11 which is magnetically operable by a magnet 12 attached to the platform. Alternatively, the magnet 12 may be replaced by a ferrous metal body and a magnet incorporated in the switch 11. The inlet opening 2 has a hinged cover 13, a nozzle 20 may be fixed in the receptacle wall for feed of water or other liquid through a pipe 31 to wash down the platform for a period determined by a time switch. A main control switch may be associated with the cover to start operation of the comminutor, when the cover is closed, for the period determined by the time switch. The platform may be an impervious plate or a relatively fine grid.
