Abstract

1,146,510. Gear oil. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 26 July, 1966 [2 Aug., 1965], No. 33630/66. Heading C5F. A substantially lead-free lubricant for industrial gears comprises a major amount of a lubricating oil base, 4 to 9% by wt of a phosphosulphurized fatty oil and 0À1 to 10% by wt. of an oil soluble detergent-dispersant. The base oil may be a synthetic or a petroleum lubricating oil. The detergent-dispersant additives may be ether polyvalent metal salts of phenols, phenol thioethers or sulphonic acids, or reaction products of high M.W. carboxylic acids and amino compounds. Preferred additives are alkoline earth metal salts of petroleum sulphonates and phospho-sulphurized sperm oil or lard oil.
