Abstract
1,146,221. Travelling filter for removing solids from dispersions. JAMES TEMPLETON & CO. Ltd. 19 Jan., 1968 [10 Jan., 1967], No. 1401/67. Heading B1D. [Also in Division D2] A hollow mesh cylinder 5 moxes axially while a slurry is introduced (e.g. via pipe 22) onto a normally fixed disc 19 in sealing engagement with the cylinder wall; liquid is extracted from the slurry by applying a vacuum at 18A. As described, the mesh 5 is normally an endless flat travelling band, but when passing through the suction unit shown it is temporarily constrained to adopt a cylindrical form, Figs. 1 and 3 (not shown). Element 16 can screw into element 17, thus rendering suction aperture 18A variable in width. On leaving the suction unit, the now flattened band carrying a solid layer is passed through squeeze-rollers (11) and under heaters (12). Thus a layer of non-woven fabric, a powder, or paper may be formed. The dispersion may be of ¢'' fibres of cellulose, wool, jute, asbestos, synthetic fibres &c., and a binder such as latex, glue or starch may be used.
