Abstract

1,145,812. Braking mechanism for toy. MINIMODELS Ltd. 21 June, 1967 [27 June, 1966], No. 28650/66. Heading A6S. A braking mechanism for a remote-controlled electrically-driven model running on wheels comprises a wheel brake actuated by a weight which is freely movable forwardly and rearwardly relative to the body of the model, the arrangement being such that when the model is decelerated by reducing the power output of the electric motor the momentum of the weight carries it forwards relative to the body and actuates the brake, and when the model is accelerated by increasing the power output, the weight moves rearwardly relative to the body and releases the brake. In Fig. 1, a car driven by an electric motor 17 has angled members 26 and 27, bearing at one end a weight 32 and at the other end' a brake shoe 31, pivoted at 28 and 29 respectively. When the car is decelerated, the weights 32 continue to move forward by virtue of their momentum, thus forcing the brake shoes 31 against the wheels 33, causing the car to stop. When the car accelerates, the shoes 31 are disengaged from the wheels by the reverse process. The braking mechanism may be used in connexion with freely travelling vehicles controlled by a cable, a locomotive running on tracks and particularly with a slot racer.
