Abstract

1,144,420. Joint-making packing; bolted joints. A. O. SMITH HARVESTORE PRODUCTS Inc. 20 Dec., 1967 [27 Dec., 1966], No. 57822/67. Headings F2B and F2H. [Also in Division E1] A joint between a concrete base 2 and a wall 6 of a gas-tight storage structure 1 is sealed by mastic sealing material 10 which may be injected through conduits, e.g. passages 18 in anchor bolts 11, extending through the wall from outside the structure to the interface between the base and the wall. The structure is supported on footings 3 and an anchoring element 7 comprising angle bars 8 extending around the base 2 is secured to the wall 6. Before the concrete base 2 is poured a continuous fillet of sealing material 10 is applied to the inner surface of the element 7, the sealing material being disposed over the inner end 12 of each bolt 11 and being guided around connections 13 by U members 17. After the base 2 is formed, sealing material is injected under pressure through successive bolts 11 to ensure that any voids 19 between the base 2 and the element 7 are filled. The outer ends of the passages 18 in the bolts 11 are closed by caps 22. If a leak develops subsequently additional sealing material may be injected through the bolts.
