Abstract
1418501 Joints between beam ends R W MARKS 15 May 1973 [15 May 1972] 22757/ 72 Heading E1W A joint between adjacent ends of two beams, e.g. reinforced concrete beams, is formed using a permanent packing 26 between the upper portions of the ends, and providing a longitudinally tightened tension-resistant connection between the lower portions thereof. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, metal housings 9 are embedded in the beam ends and welded to the reinforcement 21. Tie studs 16, threaded at each end, are housed in laterally outer channels in the housings, and retained by nuts 17, which are tightened to stress the studs. Mortar is then poured into space 8. Metal plates 24 are welded to the housings 9 and to upper reinforcement, and bolted together at their upper ends. In the joint of Fig. 5, (not shown) plates (31) are welded to bars (21a) and interconnected via plates (32) and transverse bolts. A building framework (Fig. 1) comprises cruciformshaped reinforced concrete components 1 having beams 3 interconnected by joints such as that of Fig. 2 internally of the building and by joints such as that of Fig. 5 at the building periphery.
