Abstract
779,411. Structural members. HADDOW, T. H. July 12, 1955 [Oct. 5, 1954], No. 28612/54 Classes 20(2) and 20(4) A joint or coupling device for joining structural members or sections 11 together in the frames of buildings, bridges or other static structures comprises a pair of metallic mating coupling elements 7, 8, each of which is adapted to be welded to one of the structural members 11, and which are connected to each other by means of one or more dovetailed or interlocking T-sectioned tongues and grooves extending transversely across the surface of the elements and which are provided with locking means such as one or more bolts 13 passed through the two elements in a direction at right angles to their plane of abutment. The tongue and groove are disposed transversely to the bending stresses to which the joint will be subjected. The device may be used to connect beam sections together at any point in the span of the beam, to connect structural members at an angle, or to connect beams to the columns.. It can also be used to join together prefabricated reinforced concrete members by welding the elements to the reinforcement. It can be used for enabling pre-stressed reinforced concrete members to be used in continuous framing.
