978,030. Column-beam joints. S. HERZY. April 16, 1963, No. 14874/63. Heading E1V. In a joint between prefabricated steel or reinforced concrete beams 3 and reinforced concrete columns 1, 2, the ends of the columns have inserts 8 engaged by centring bars 14 to force the column ends together and the ends of the beams 3 have protruding parts 13 engaged within the inserts 8. The protruding parts 13 may be dowels welded to the beam web or may be dowels fixed to plates embedded in concrete beams, the protruding ends locating in a belled portion 9 of the insert 8 to hold the beams 3 as the columns 1, 2 are clamped together on the beams by wedges 17 passing through transverse holes in the bar 14, insert 8 and column, the lower end of the bar 14 being held by a rod 16. In an embodiment, Fig. 5, lattice beams, having upper, 23, and lower, 24, chords of V-section joined by diagonal struts 25, are located and clamped between columns 18, 19. Joists 21 are inserted between the lattice structure, pillars 27 placed on the joists and gaps 28, the lattice spaces and the area surrounding the column joint cast up with concrete.
