Abstract

1,150,871. Concrete frame structures. COMPONOFORM Inc. 9 May, 1966 [16 Feb., 1965], No. 6705/65. Heading E1W. A precast integral reinforced' concrete column section 11 comprises a plurality of arms such as 17 disposed substantially at right angles to the axis of the column, the arms having embedded longitudinally extending metal reinforcing rods and each having a jointing outer end adapted to form an abutting face joint with a co-operating face of another reinforced structural component which may be another similar column section 11, or a tie beam 30 and adapted to permit secure connection between the rods of the two components when so abutted. The joints. between the reinforcing rods may be effected by crimped collars 31 applied over their projecting ends situated within grouting pockets 21, 21' Fig. 6. In a building framework the column sections 11 may be placed one above the other in axial alignment, spaced apart by intervening floor slabs 12 which have notched reinforced corners adjacent the columns. The reinforcement in the columns projects into grouting spaces defined by the notched corners of the slabs so that crimped collars or welding can be employed to connect the columns. Alternatively plates can be joined to the reinforcement at the adjacent top and bottom the columns, the plates and thereby the being connected by nuts, Figs. 7b and g (not shown). Other connecting arrangements between superimposed columns employ wedges 183 driven between U-shaped projecting ends 182 of the column reinforcement, Fig. 7c, or between bent tabs projecting from plates welded to the ends of the reinforcements, Fig. 7e and j (not shown). A further connection between superimposed columns comprises steel brackets secured to the juxtaposed column ends, the brackets having extensions which can be bent one over another after mounting the columns to secure the ends together, Fig. 7f and k (not shown). The floor and/or ceiling slabs may be hollow and have chamferred or rabetted edges which when the slabs are juxtaposed form a grouting channel into which project reinforcements 36 projecting from the slab edges and reinforcements 41 projecting from the arms 17 or beams 30, Fig. 5 (not shown). The specification describes also an arrangement including exterior wall slabs, the edges of such slabs and the faces of the floor and/or ceiling slabs being provided with embedded screw-threaded sockets so that the wall and floor &c. slabs may be connected by coupling plates secured by bolts engaging such sockets. Moreover bolts engaging such sockets can form pins for locating wall slabs edgewise one upon another.
