Abstract

A SPLICING DEVICE ADAPTED TO BE USED TO JOIN TWO CONCRETE PILE TOGETHER. TWO SPLICING CAPS 10 AND 11 EACH HAVE EXTENSIONS 12 AND 13 RESPECTIVELY TERMINETING IN FLAT END PLATES 14 AND 15 RESPECTIVELY.EACH SPLICING CAP HAS AN END CAP PORTION 16 WHICH IN THIS INSTANCE IS SHOMN TO BE OF SQUARE SECTION TO FIT OVER A SQUARE CONCRETE PILE. FLAT TIES 17 ARE EMPLOYED WHICH ARE BOLTED TO THE INSIDE OF THEEXTENSION 12 OF EACH SPLICING CAP. CONCRETE IS THEN POURED AROUND THE END PORTION OF THE PILE SO AS TO EMBRACE THE FLAT TIES AND TO FILL THE SPLIING CAP THUS MOULDING THE BOLT HEADS INTO THE CONCRETE. THE BOLTS 18, PROTRUDE THROUGH THE WALLS OF THE EXTENSION 12 FOR JOINING TWO SPLICED PILES TOGETHER BY MEANS OF LINKS 19 AND NUTS 20. ONE PILE SPLICING CAP IS FORMED ON THE END OF A CONCRETE PILE, A SECOND CAP IS FORMED ON THE END OF A SECOND PILE AND THE CAPS ARE BROUGHT WITH THEIR END PLATES 14, 15 FACE TO FACE.(FIG 1)
