Abstract
1,142,519. Cathode ray tubes; travelling-wave tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 25 Nov., 1966 [30 Nov., 1965], No. 52811/66. Heading H1D. A travelling wave arrangement for the deflection of a charged particle beam, e.g. in a cathode ray tube, includes one electrode in the form of a squashed helix 5 of flat ribbon, and another electrode formed in two parts, both of which parts are coaxial with, and contoured similarly to, the helix, one part 8 being disposed within the helix and the other part 1 completely surrounding the helix. The outer part 1 is formed in two parts which are bolted together to provide the tunnel 4 within which the part 8, in the form of a ribbon, and the helix 5, are mounted by means of thin mica strips 6. The electron beam 10 is positioned either, as shown, between the helix and the tunnel wall, or between the helix and the inner electrode part 8. Numerical data on electrode sizes and spacings and helix pitch are included.
