Abstract

1,142,280. Lubricants. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 7 Dec., 1967, No. 55753/67. Heading C5F. A lubricant comprises a mineral lubricating oil, 0À1-10 wt. per cent of a copolymer of a vinyl pyridine and at least one alkyl methacrylate, 0À1-10 wt. per cent of a reaction product of a polyalkylene polyamine and either a mono- (polyolefin) succinic anhydride or a polyolefin monocarboxylic acid, and 0À1-15 wt. per cent of a basic alkaline earth metal salt of an organic acid. The composition may also contain a zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate or a zinc bis-(alkylphenyl) dithiophosphate; phenols: arylamines; dibenzyl and dialkyl sulphides; esters and metal salts of organic phosphates, phosphites, phosphonates or their thio-derivatives; phosphosulphurized terpenes and their potassium salts; and silicones (examples are given). The basic salts may be sulphonates or alkyl salicylates (examples are given).
