Abstract

A grease comprises a base oil, an alkali metal salt of a fatty acid and atris-(2-chloroalkyl) ester of an oxyacid of phosphorus. The base oil may be mineral or synthetic e.g. trimethylolpropane tricaprylate, dinonyl sebacate, 2: 2: 6: 6-tetrakis alkyl - cyclohexanone - # - proprionate, 2: 2: 5 :5-tetrakis alkyl - cyclopentanone - # - proprionate, 2 - alkyl - 2: 6: 6: - trisalkyl - cyclohexanone - # - proprionate and 2 - alkyl - 2: 5: 5 - tris alkyl cyclopentanone - # - proprionate The alkali metal salt may be a palmitate, oleate, stearate or 12 - hydroxystearate. The phosphorus ester may be a tris-2 chloroethyl or propyl-phosphite or phosphate.
