Abstract

1307727 Lubricants ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 19 April 1971 [24 July 1970] 36009/70 Heading C5F Lubricants comprise a base oil, a quaternary ammonium salt of a halogen-substituted carboxylie acid wherein there is at least one α-halogen atom and an antioxidant. The acid may be mono- or di-carboxylic (many examples are given, e.g. trichloroacetic acid and α,α-dichlorophenyl acetic acid), and the quaternary ammonium salt may be tetra-n-butyl ammonium trichloroacetate. Many examples of diarylamine, thiodiarylamine and s-trizaine antioxidants are given. The lubricating oil may be mineral, fatty or synthetic, e.g. diesters, polyesters, complex esters and mixtures thereof with polyglycols (many examples given). The lubricant may also contain a corrosion inhibitor (e.g. alizarin, anthrarufin, imidazole, alkyl gallates or sebacic acid), silicones and alkyl or alkyl aryl phosphates.
