Abstract

114,206. Shearer, F. C. March 26, 1917. Chair plates; sleepers, securing rails to.-Concrete and similar sleepers are formed with recesses near each end to receive wooden blocks 7 which are held in position by transverse bolts 9 and plates 10 which fit into recesses in the sides of the sleeper. The upper surface of the sleeper is recessed to receive an extension of the chair plate 13 which has an upturned heel 17. A clamping-plate 18, bolted through the sleeper, holds one flange of the rail in position, the other flange being held by a spike 15. When no chair plate is used, the extension of the surface recess receives a box-like structure in which the clamping-plate 18 is held..
