Abstract

116,640. Meyrick, W. H. Nov. 8, 1917. Pot sleepers are formed of blocks of concrete or ferro-concrete having a recess c on the upper surface in which the rail chair or chair plate snugly sits. One end of the : sleeper block is slotted to form a drainage channel and a recess f for receiving the end of a tie-bar, or a tie-plate to connect to a tie-bar extends into the recess so that the tie-bar &c. may be bolted to the rail chair, no other securing means being employed. The undersurface of the sleeper block is recessed to form a secure seating. In the case of electric railways the third rail o, Fig. 10, is supported on insulators n mounted on brackets p which are fixed by portions which fit in suitable recesses in the floor of the chair recess and are secured by bolts to the chairs.
