Chairs with adjustable or separate jaws; sleepers integral with chairs, and securing rails to.-A hollow metal sleeper 6 is provided with a fixed chair jaw 14 and a cut-away portion to receive a movable chair jaw 19, which is held up to its position by a screw 17. The sleeper is provided with a lug 16 dependent from the upper surface and having a vertical face situated under the web of the rail when in position. The movable chair jaw is provided with a dependent portion 21 shaped to pass under the flange of the rail and engage with the interior surface of the upper part of the sleeper, the forward face being arranged to hear against the vertical face of the lug 16. When it is desired to adjust the gauge, spacing-blocks may be inserted between the jaw 14 and rail flange and between the vertical faces of the parts 16, 21, the spacing-blocks having studs to engage in the holes 27, 30 respectively.
