Abstract

Creeping of rails, preventing; chairs.-Stops or abutments are welded to the underside of rails and bear against a vertical surface on the sleeper or an intermediate angle-plate, Fig. 4. The stops may bear directly against the sleepers or against the intermediate chair plates, or engage in correspondingly-shaped recesses in the chair plate, Fig. 2. The rail may be welded to the chair plate, which is fastened to the sleeper as shown in Fig. 1. The welding may be effected by an oxybydrogen blowpipe, by electricity, by an alumino-thermic process, or by means of haid solder &c.
