Abstract

112,254. Peterson, C. E. Oct. 2, 1917. Sleepers, metal; chairs securing to sleepers; chair plates.-A metal sleeper for railway rails is formed of a U-section 1 and has a central vertical web 4 secured to the bottom. A plate 6 resting on the top of the sides and central web is secured to the sides by downturned flanges 7 and bolts 8. A sole plate 9, on which the rail 12 rests, is formed with an upturned jaw 10 to engage one rail flange and with a downturned flange 11 which is slotted to engage with the central web. A separate clamping-jaw 14 engages with the other rail flange and is secured through the sole plate and plate 6 by bolts 15.
