Sleepers, metal, and securing rails to.-A metal railway sleeper is formed in one piece with a lower flange a and vertical web b, which is expanded at each end to form upper flanges d acting as rail seats. The sleeper may be perforated as shown. Each end of the sleeper at the rail seats is provided with sinuous vertical boxes c, Fig. 3, corresponding with each flange of the rail. The rail is secured by metal spikes which take a sinuous form when driven in; similar deformable spacing-shims D are also provided by which the position of the rail can be adjusted.
