Abstract

1,141,906. Extruding. FIELDING & PLATT Ltd. 26 Sept., 1967 [26 Sept., 1966], No. 42870/66. Heading B3P. An hydraulic metal extrusion press has means for removing the extruded product 1 from the die 8 after severing the discard 2, comprising means 14 disposed downstream of the die assembly, for gripping the product and means 16 for moving the die assembly rearwardly. The die 8 and its bolster 6 are mounted in a die carrier 5 slidable axially in a die slide 4 and biased forwardly by springs 10. After severing the discard 2 by a shear blade, the product 1 which has passed out to a run-out table, is gripped by the serrated edges 15 of two or more hydraulically actuated grippers 14. The die assembly on carrier 5 is then moved rearwardly by two hydraulic rams 16 to push the die from the extruded product. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the grippers 14 are spaced from the bolster 6 and the rams 16 act through push-rods (17).
