Abstract

[Also in Division A6] A power transmission device, for inclusion in a building set including bricks adapted for interlocking engagement by means of re-entrant tenon and groove connections, comprises a body portion having on its outer surface re-entrant grooves and at least one re-entrant tenon for interlocking engagement with such bricks, further provided with a cylindrical recess containing a working piston and with conduit means for transmission of pressure fluid to either side of the piston to enable actuation of the latter in the manner of a fluid operable ram. Fig. 1 shows an embodiment in which the recess 1c of the device is closed by a plug 8 inserted in the end, plug 8 having a bore in which the piston rod 6 is slidable. Preferably the piston rod 6 is shaped and dimensioned to fit in the reentrant grooves of co-operating bricks. The tenon 3 may be provided on the end face of the cylinder and the grooves 2 provided on its lateral faces. Preferably the grooves are formed in a solid portion 16 of the unit which extends beyond the inner surface of the recess 1c The body portion of the unit preferably has the same cross-section as the standard building bricks used with it. The Figure shows the unit connected to an articulated brick which also has similar re-entrant grooves and tenons. Said conduit means are shown at 7.
