[Also in Division C7] Powdered refractory non-metallic material, e.g. silicone nitride, is pressure sintered in a hollow tubular die 10 by a punch 13, a spacer 15 of silicone nitride being disposed between the punch and the pressure applying machine. The powdered charge is compressed against a plug 12 which, together with the parts 10 and 13, is of graphite. The adjacent surfaces of the punch and spacer, and the adjacent surface of the portion of the machine engaging the spacer, as well as the interengaging surfaces of the die plug and bed 11 may be coated with a refractory filler material such as that described in Specification 1,259,452.
