Abstract

1,190,165. Splined couplings. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. 16 April, 1969 [23 May, 1968], No. 24619/68. Heading F2U. A sliding splined coupling includes lands 18, 20 of equal diameter on opposite sides of the externally splined portion 12 and separated by lubricant spaces 22, 24, the coupling also being provided with end seals 36, 38 of which seal 36 is carried by land 18 and engages the internal surface of a sleeve 28 secured to the outer coupling member 16, while seal 38 is carried by member 16 and engages land 20. In operation, lands 18, 20 reduce side loading on splined portion 12 by resisting transverse bending moments and seals 36, 38 being of equal effective area provide a constant volume lubricant reservoir.
