Abstract

A cable connection box comprises a casing 1 of plastics material and four rectangular mounting plates 2 pivotally mounted at 5 on one side of the casing so that, in the "closed" position, the plates lie within the casing being retained by releasable catches 8, while in the "open" position they are swung outside the casing to facilitate connection operations. The plates 2 are provided with series of slots 3 along their longer sides, staggered with respect to opposite sides, and with central rectangular apertures 10. Connection strips 14, formed from two identical mouldings screwed together, are snap-fitted into the apertures 10 in plates 2, each strip 14 having apertures along its edges which register with corresponding slots 3 in the plates 2, the apertures accommodating screw clamp terminals 15, solder tags 21, or twist tags 22, whereby cores of incoming and outgoing cables are interconnected. Identification strips 12 are mounted on the fronts of strips 14. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown), the connection strips 14 are dispensed with, connection sockets (4) being provided in the slots 3 in plates 2 to receive the cable cores; in this case the identification strips are disposed in the apertures 10. The four sides of the casing 1 have knock-out portions to permit cable entry, and T-shaped cable guides 25 and clips 27 are provided on the rear wall of the casing; notches 42 disposed in opposite edges of plates 2 receive rubber rings to support the cable cores on the plates. An earthing plate 28 having clamp terminals 30 and probe points 29, and terminal strips 34 having oversize clamp terminals, are provided forwardly of the clips 27 on the rear wall of the casing, which is closed by a front cover 38, and may be provided with an adjustable masking frame 37 for flushmounting.
