A rack for electrical equipment, such as selector switching apparatus in automatic telephone exchanges, comprises two vertical members 10, 11, Fig. 1, of sheet metal, secured as by welding at the top and bottom to rectangular metal plates such as 12, Fig. 4, each vertical member 10, 11 being shaped as by pressing to provide vertical ducts 13, 14, 15, 16 on each side of a central part of each member which is secured either to the central part of a vertical member of an adjacent rack or to an end plate 19, 20; the vertical ducts 13 . . . 16 are provided with detachable covers 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, and a horizontal duct 34, Fig. 4, having a detachable cover 35, extends between and communicates with vertical ducts 15, 16 to provide a pathway for jumpering cables (not shown) between tagblocks 17, 18 in the vertical ducts and tagblocks 33 in the horizontal duct. Electrical equipment such as selectors 31, 32 is mounted on U-section shelves 30 secured as by bolting to vertical members 10, 11, the front face of the rack being closed by detachable covers 28 made of, e.g. metal framed transparent sheets of P.V.C. The rear of each rack is closed by metal covers 29. Cabling from the selectors passes through grommets in cut-outs in the vertical members and is terminated on tagblocks such as 17, 18 which are staggered along the vertical ducts to facilitate access. A runway for installer's cables 41 comprises wall-sections 37, 38, a cable platform 39, and a detachable U-section cover 40; 36 is an inter-suite tie-bar. Vertical ducts 13 accommodate battery supply busbars with alarm type fuse panels, while the ducts 14, separated therefrom by partitions 25, contain common-service relays, lamp and test-jack panels, tone supply jacks &c.
