Abstract

1,140,576. Strip fastenings. SELECTUS Ltd. 18 April. 1967 '[20 April, 1966], No. 17389/66. Heading E2S. A fastener comprises a first member 1 having a surface with filamentary elements 3 upstanding therefrom and a second member 6 comprising a layer 7 made of matted filaments with interstices therebetween .for receiving the elements of the first member when the members are urged together, the elements being shaped to releasably engage the matted filaments when so received. The first member can be a fabric as disclosed in Specification 721,338 or a separable fastening element as disclosed in Specification 987484; in each. case the filamentary elements are hook shaped. The second member can as shown have an .additional layer 8 consisting of matted filaments with interstices therebetween the two layers being .separated by a layer of scrim 9;' alternatively when the second member has a single layer of the matted filaments they can have a layer of scrim on one or .both of its major surfaces. The open weave of the scrim enabling the filamentary elements to penetrate it. The or each layer of matted filaments can consist of natural or artificial-fibres fixed together by an adhesive or by using a solvent to dissolve the surfaces, pressing the fibres together and allowing the solvent to evaporate or by using . heat and pressure.
