Abstract

927,828. Piled fabrics. VELCRO S.A. June 21, 1961 [June 23, 1960], No. 22412/61. Class 74 (2). [Also in Groups IX and XXV] In a device for joining two flexible elements formed by two strip-shaped supports provided on at least one of their faces with a number of hooking members, the supports being adapted to be applied one against the other, and the hooking members of one of the supports being constituted by loops, the locking members of the other support are constituted by upright pile threads projecting from the base support, the threads being folded back towards the corresponding face of the support. In the arrangement according to Fig. 1 a fabric comprising weft threads 1 and warp threads 2 is provided with additional warp threads 4 which are cut to form pairs of projecting threads 3, the additional threads preferably being of thermoplastic material, the cut threads 3 then being subjected to heat and pressure to fold them back towards the threads 1 and 2, whereby the threads 3 may be engaged with loops 7, Fig. 3, formed on another fabric 6 when the two fabrics are pressed together. The threads 3 may be folded back in the same direction, as shown, or they may be folded back in various directions, Fig. 7 (not shown). In another arrangement, Fig. 8, the additional thread 4, which is of thermoplastic material, is formed with notches 11 the shape of which may be other than that shown. The projecting threads 3 may be provided by electrostatic dispersion and gluing of hooking members on a strip of plastics material or by extrusion of plastics material through a screen. Specifications 721,338 and 883,298 are referred to.
