Abstract

[Also in Division E1] A building panel or ceiling tile of foamed polyurethane or other plastics is moulded around an embedded reinforcement network of expanded metal, or welded mesh 22-23, Fig. 3, shaped to define a plurality of planar surfaces. The tongued and grooved wall panel shown has an asbestos covering, is reduced in thickness at top and bottom to seat in ceiling and floor channels, and has vertical asbestos-lined trapezoidal channels 18 (e.g. for service ducts). The asbestos covering may be omitted altogether, or be replaced by a wood, marble, tile or brick covering. The trapezoidal apertures may also be omitted, may be lined with trapezoidal or circular paper or metal tubes and filled with plastics, or may be replaced by a single large rectangular aperture, Fig. 6 (not shown). Alternatively tubes may be attached to one side of a reinforced panel. In a modification a solid wall panel 111, Fig. 9 (not shown), seated in floor and ceiling channels and having vertical rebates is reinforced by flat metallic mesh (122) having a plurality of bent-out tabs (128). The panel may be moulded with or without heat from polystyrene beads or flakes, or from epoxy resin, or polyurethane of the polyester or polyether type. In a preferred method a foamable mixture is overcharged into a mould having the reinforcement attached, the excess mixture providing a pressure producing a smooth skin.
