Abstract

892,722. Tiled panels; curtain walls and wall cladding. CARTER & CO. LONDON Ltd., NOVIS, W. E., and ARCHER, D. C. Aug. 3, 1960 [Oct. 7, 1959], No. 33965/59. Classes 20(4) and 87(1) A building panel comprises a layer 1 of glass or ceramic tiles or mosaic, and a sheet 2 of asbestos cement or metal between which is moulded a core 3 of foamed polyurethane. The panel is bounded on at least three sides by an aluminium frame 4 which is recessed at 7 so that two panels may contain a flat weatherstrip or a split support 14. The frame also serves as a mould for the core 3. To form a curtain wall the panels are located in channels formed on the outside of tubular mullions. The Provisional Specification describes also a panel which is tiled on both faces, opposite tiles being separated by spacing members which are contained in a cement core. Resin impregnated glass fibre matting may be used as a backing to each tile layer.
