Abstract

1386752 Laminates ARCHITECTURAL RESEARCH CORP 19 March 1973 13077/73 Heading B5N A building panel comprises first and second layers 40 and 46 of non-foamed, cured resinous material containing 60-90% by volume of mineral particles adhered together and a rigid block of foamed material 44, e.g. of polyurethane or glass, encased between the first and second layers extending substantially throughout the internal area thereof and having a plurality of spaced apart openings therethrough, resinous material of the second layer extending through the openings and forming bridging connections 18 between the layers to prevent separation thereof. The panel may have a rectangular metallic frame 10, e.g. of aluminium or steel, provided with flanges 36 and 38. A panel 39, e.g. of asbestos, aluminium or steel, may first be laid in the frame and rendered fluid tight by caulking material 40. After the application of layers 42, 44 and 46, a sheet 48 of wire screen, woven glass fibre or other foraminous material may be applied and covered with a further layer 50 of resin containing mineral particles in which are embedded stones 51. The resinous material may be epoxy resin or an unsaturated polyester resin containing a polymerizable monomer, and the mineral particles may be of sand, marble, granite, ground chalk or glass fibre wool.
